Who is Dr. Jaracus Copes?
Dr. Jaracus Copes is a STEM professional turned educational leader––who is sought after for developing educational supports, keynote speeches, professional developments, and STEM programming. He has done consulting work internationally for organizations such as College Board, The STEM Equity Initiative, RDAfrica, The Kenyetta Trust and the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Copes holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, master’s degrees from The Johns Hopkins University, The University of Pennsylvania, Eastern University, and a doctorate from Delaware State University.
He has a multitude of experience in taking a concept to full implementation and professional development of staff to ensure programmatic success. Most recently Dr. Copes worked at The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU-APL) where he launched a STEM Academy that grew over 400% in a span of 4 years.
Dr. Copes has been awarded Maryland Education Entrepreneur of the Year, Mentor of the Year for the JHU-APL ATLAS program, and an Innovation Award for the creation of a STEM themed Escape Room in a box. He also sits on various advisory boards to ensure the inclusion of underrepresented minorities in STEM fields.
